MacBook - You hurt my eyes Tuesday, January 16, 2007

The MacBook. Beautiful. Aesthetic. Light. Elegant.

But not for me.

End of the year, I was in search of a solution for my Windows needs. For over a year now, I had used browsercam to get screenshots of my latest design efforts. Testing for IE via browsercam is, without a doubt, more than insufficient and so I spent many hours making all of my designs work in IE 5 for the Mac. Lucky me is blessed with the older PowerPC which has IE5 pre-installed. All CSS and rendering issues could be solved with these less than optimal tools. It got the job done.

Last month, smart me thought of getting an Intel based Mac. Not wanting to spend too much money on one hand, not wanting a Windows machine on the other, was my pre-condition. Alas, the MacBook it was going to be. It had all I wanted. I could use Windows and Tiger simultaneously, setup a virtual desktop environment with Parallels and let browsercam and my ugly IE5 be bygones. And all that in a decently priced MacBook.

Turns out, after working for multiple hours, this laptop is simply too small! It hurts my eyes. It makes me aggressive. I just don't like it. I really do not like it. Working on a 23" Apple Cinema Display for a great amount of time a day, this little nifty MacBook doesn't cut it. Not even for testing sites. It doesn't work. I can't adjust.

So, goodbye little MacBook. I thought we could make amends, but I'll just have to give you away and mingle with your big brother or perhaps even your dad.

Do have your say, please.

Even though it’s tiny, it’s powerful!  I love my Macbook Pro!
